Inaugural Leadership, Mentorship & Public Advocacy for Women in Medical Science Award Winner Announced

The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) presented Victoria Reggie Kennedy with the first Leadership, Mentorship & Public Advocacy for Women in Medical Science Award at the Celebration of ASLMS Women in Energy-Based Devices event held April 1, 2016, at ASLMS 2016 in Boston.

Kennedy has been a leading voice on the empowerment of women and girls, and is an advocate for expanding medical research and access to health care for all Americans. She has received numerous awards for her advocacy of healthcare for women.

Kennedy is senior counsel in the corporate and securities practice at Greenberg Traurig LLP, and president of the board and co-founder of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. She has also served in key strategic and political roles on issues ranging from health, education, economic opportunity and involvement in the political process.

"Given her far-reaching efforts on projects that have encouraged and assisted women to achieve excellence in science and medicine, I can think of no better recipient for this inaugural award," said Tina Alster, MD, founding director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery, who presented the award to Kennedy.
