ASLMS Announces New Officers

Mathew M. Avram, MD, JD, was elected president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) on April 7, 2017. He is the director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Dermatology Laser & Cosmetic Center, faculty director for Laser and Cosmetic Training in the department of dermatology at Harvard Medical School, and associate professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School.

The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) presented Victoria Reggie Kennedy with the first Leadership, Mentorship & Public Advocacy for Women in Medical Science Award at the Celebration of ASLMS Women in Energy-Based Devices event held April 1, 2016, at ASLMS 2016 in Boston.

Kennedy has been a leading voice on the empowerment of women and girls, and is an advocate for expanding medical research and access to health care for all Americans. She has received numerous awards for her advocacy of healthcare for women.

ASLMS to Host East Coast Aesthetics Course

The American Society of Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS) will host an East Coast Laser Aesthetics Course on September 20-21, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, New Jersey.

This course is designed for anyone who desires to have a deeper understanding of how lasers work and then apply that knowledge to accomplish optimum clinical outcomes. It is geared toward individuals who currently use or are investigating the use of lasers and other light-based technology in an array of clinical aesthetic applications.

A new review of laser-assisted drug delivery highlights the potential of laser technology to increase efficacy and reduce side effects of prescription medications. “Laser Assisted Drug Delivery: A Review of An Evolving Technology,” by Lindsay R. Sklar, MD, Christopher T. Burnett, MD, FAAD, Jill S. Waibel, MD, FAAD, Ronald L. Moy, MD, FAAD, and David M. Ozog, MD, FAAD, was published in the April 2014 issue of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.

ASLMS Launches Preceptorship Program

More than 25 board certified members of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS) have volunteered to serve as preceptors as part of a new, formal preceptorship program offered through the ASLMS with a grant from Cynosure.

The program was developed to provide early career professionals a unique opportunity to learn new techniques and perspectives in lasers and other related technologies, observe a successful practice in action, and develop valuable career networks.

ASLMS Introduces Public Policy Director

George J. Hruza, MD, MBA, of Chesterfield, Missouri, has been named Public Policy Director for the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS). This is a new position. According to the Society’s board policies, “The Public Policy Director shall identify and prioritize relevant state and federal legislative and regulatory proposals that relate to this purpose and impact members of the ASLMS.”

ASLMS Seeking Abstracts

The American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery is now accepting scientific abstracts for possible presentation at Laser 2013, the 33rd annual meeting of the ASLMS. Abstracts describing the latest research and clinical findings about laser medicine and related technologies must be submitted for consideration online by Monday, October 22, 2012 at
www.aslmsabstract.org/.
